A Long-Awaited Move After a recent health issue made living closer to family a priority, Warren and his wife were…

Eddie and Jane have called Cloverdale home for more than four years, raising their two children in a neighbourhood they’ve been part of for over a decade. Their 974sqm block, zoned R20/R40, offered plenty of space, but the old backyard shed had long gone unused. When their adult son returned from years of travelling and was ready to settle down with his partner, they saw the perfect opportunity to transform that underutilised area into something meaningful.
Replacing the shed with a granny flat gave their son the independence of his own home while keeping him close to family.
“Building a granny flat has definitely been the right thing to do — not just for my son, but for our family’s future.”

Working with Sales Consultant Luke Matthews, Eddie and Jane made lifestyle the focus of their design. The granny flat was carefully positioned to capture leafy parkland views, morning sunlight, and the sound of local birdlife, while also ensuring privacy for both households. Their son’s alfresco and Eddie and Jane’s entertaining area function independently, giving everyone freedom and space without feeling crowded.
They chose the Astaire Standard design after visiting the Myaree display home, feeling confident in its layout and how well it suited the block’s orientation and solar positioning. With Luke’s guidance, they made modifications, including an extended kitchen benchtop to mirror the display home and a larger alfresco for seamless indoor–outdoor living.
“From the moment we met Luke at the showroom, the whole experience was positive. The team kept us informed the whole way through, even with council delays, and made the process really easy.”
The completed granny flat exceeded expectations in both quality and liveability.
“It’s also given our family more ways to spend time together — dinners, summer evenings by the pool, and enjoying the outdoor spaces.”

Eddie’s son and his partner now enjoy a modern home with privacy, space, and connection to the outdoors, while Eddie and Jane have transformed an unused backyard corner into a purposeful, future-proof addition.
The granny flat has also proven to be a smart investment, with rental interest reaching as high as $720 per week and the overall property value significantly enhanced.
“When we thought about the cost, we never saw it as an expense. It’s adding an asset to the place and really enhancing the value of the property.”

For Eddie and Jane, the project has delivered on every level — supporting their family, enriching their lifestyle, and creating a flexible asset that will continue to add value for years to come.
