As first time home-owners and first time builders the most important thing for us was building with someone we could trust and who we knew would support us along the way. Chris gave us this reassurance and he was true to his word – he helped us at every step of the journey and we are so grateful for his guidance.
Geographe locals, Michael and Dianne, welcomed us recently into their beautiful Summit home. With an impressive 8 month build time and being their second time building, they shared advice and took us through their journey – from land purchase to design and build.
Please tell us about your home design and why you chose it.
Our home is a custom design with some elements from a couple of display homes incorporated into the design – Manor and Capella.
We’ve been living in the home for a little over a year now and it is the second home that we have built. The first home building experience was a holiday home in Busselton 16 years ago. We opted to build as we could not find a home in the desired location that would tick all the boxes or be an affordable option to extend or renovate.
What was the most important thing that you wanted to achieve with your new home?
Good sized living area and bedrooms, large outdoor area and plenty of undercover parking as well as access for our caravan.
How did you hear about Summit?
We always knew about Summit, but during our journey we did speak to four other builders. Our design criteria was quite specific and no display home was going to meet the brief. Our Summit Consultant, Karen King best interpreted our requirements and we progressed from there.
During the process it was never about price, but about who could deliver the design that best represented our vision. We had a very good experience with Summit.
What was your favourite part of the building process?
The design process was the highlight as we had purchased the land prior to commencing the design process. We chose our own European kitchen appliances, flooring and window treatments.
Living locally we were able to monitor progress on a daily basis and arrange to meet with the Construction Supervisor during his visits.
Which part of the building process was the most challenging for you?
The most challenging part of the process was probably tile and colour selections. Our consultant and supervisor were both very helpful throughout the process.
What advice would you offer someone who is considering building a home?
Find a consultant that you feel comfortable to work with and go from there. Don’t be afraid to change things. The existing builders designs whilst good do not suit every lifestyle and you can mix and match or start from scratch.
Would you recommend Summit homes to a friend or family member who were building?
We had a brilliant experience with Summit. Our consultant was very patient with us during the process which took a year from our initial consultation to contract. We have a home that we are extremely happy with and that was built on time.
