A Long-Awaited Move

After a recent health issue made living closer to family a priority, Warren and his wife were ready to make the move they had long discussed. Warren’s daughter had purchased the spacious 1,107m² block as an investment, with the goal of bringing her parents nearer.

While their new granny flat was under construction, Warren and his wife stayed in the existing front house. Once complete, they moved into their custom-designed granny flat, and the front house became a rental property. Living nearby to their daughter now means they enjoy daily moments with their grandchildren—from school runs to relaxed family time.

Designing for Real Needs

With plenty of space on the block, Warren had clear priorities for the home’s design: a detached bedroom layout to accommodate his wife’s mobility needs, a large garage, and a north-facing verandah to make the most of natural sunlight.

Summit’s design team adapted their standard plan with thoughtful modifications—extending bedrooms and living areas and relocating the laundry to the garage—to perfectly fit Warren’s lifestyle.

Living the Difference

The granny flat is positioned slightly lower and off to the side of the rental house, offering excellent privacy. A separate driveway and electric gate enhance their sense of space and security. The couple added cameras, an alarm system, and landscaped the grounds with native plants and a vegetable garden. Plus, proximity to the beach gives Warren and his wife the opportunity for daily walks. Most importantly, this new home allows Warren to be more present in his grandchildren’s lives than ever before.

A Home That Works for Them

The indoor/outdoor living areas have quickly become a favourite spot for relaxed breakfasts and gatherings. With bedrooms separated, Warren and his wife maintain their independent routines without disturbance. Each enjoys their own space to watch TV or work comfortably. As Warren puts it: “I wish we’d done this sooner. Summit really listened and made sure the home worked for us.”
