Please tell us about your home design and why you chose it. We were considering multiple different designs with two…
Myaree residents, Tim & Angela Newing, recently shared their experience building for the second time. The growing family built a custom home with Summit Homes designed around space and entertaining.
Please tell us about why you chose your home design.
Our home was a custom build, we knew we wanted an “entertainers home” and one with great flow for a family. We installed the pool prior to the build and we wanted a design which showcased this and the large landscaped backyard. We love the way Summit Homes was able to link these spaces with the alfresco and the open plan living area.
Tell us a bit about your new home.
Our home is just exceptional and is everything we wanted, Summit Homes met the brief so well. We have been in the home 10 months now – and having lived in it for the best part of a year there’s not really anything we’d change. We chose to build after spending quite some time looking for that perfect established family home. We couldn’t find exactly what we wanted and felt we would be compromising if we bought established.
What were some highlights of your building process?
Designing the front facade of the home was one of our favourite parts of the whole build process. We wanted a mid-century modern design so we used a skillion roof, lots of white and long clean lines. We love natural textures and so used a stone feature wall and wooden battens to complete the look we desired.
We enjoyed the updates on the @home portal. The photos were great to show family and friends and to keep as a record. The conversations with our site supervisor, Brendan Shugg, were excellent too, we were able to talk through issues and resolve most of these on the spot.
What is some advice you have for those building?
Do your homework so you know the process and appreciate what decisions need to be made and when. Have a good idea of the most important features or “must haves” you want for your home. These will cornerstone the rest of the design. In the same breath, be open to what the designer/consultant has to say as they may be able to make your plans even better.
Understand where costs can blow out and if you really want those things – make allowances for this. Be realistic – things do happen and challenges do arise, this is normal on any build. Work with the builder as a team, it’s a long process so a good relationship is extremely important.
Would you recommend Summit to a friend or family member who were building?
Absolutely. We were so very happy with the quality of the build and the process of building itself.
From our great sales rep, Michael Klaver, to our building supervisor, Brendan Shugg, we really felt like everyone took real care and interest in our home, almost treating it like it was their own. When challenges arose, the Summit Homes team were honest, transparent and really listened to what we had to say. This all helped to deliver a high quality home on time.
