Hear from Sineka and Wim on how they achieved their dream of living a multigenerational lifestyle with their son and…
Ronnie and Lorna Hurst were looking for a way to not only add value to their Attadale abode, but they also wanted to support their daughter Georgia, her partner Lewis and their grandson Charlie.
“We have a large 911sqm block and a granny flat was an opportunity to help provide and support our daughter’s young family as well as a great way to add value to our property,” Ronnie said.
“Once we had made the decision to build a granny flat in our back garden we visited and reviewed the various builders in the market, the services offered, the process involved, the likely contract price and the professionalism of the staff we dealt with.”
“We were impressed with Summit’s professionalism, follow up and the opportunity to review the layout and design of the granny flat at the Leach Highway HQ.
“We also appreciated the opportunity to discuss different potential design outcomes and the likely impact that would have on our budget. We did not feel pressured at any point to make a decision.
“The experience was excellent and the word I would use to describe the process would be ‘seamless.”
Lorna said that each staff member was attentive and responsive if we had questions, issues or problem.
“We worked closely with Drew Murray to review a variety of design options and opportunities and the resulting cost impact of each. I was very keen to avoid contract variations when we signed the contract.
“Drew was generous with his knowledge, patient and quick to offer advice and guidance based on his previous experience in designing many other granny flats. We had no contract variations throughout the process.
“All the sub-contractors who built the granny flat were professional, efficient, tidied up after themselves each day and were polite.”
With Ronnie being involved in a number of significant construction projects, he was looking for a company that would listen to his suggestions as a customer, respond accordingly and provide advice as to the pros and cons of any design elements.
“I also wanted a builder who would be transparent when it came to pricing, use quality materials and sub-contractors, meet the timeframe which had been agreed and be professional in the customer management relationship,” Ronnie said.
“Summit met all of the above expectations.
“The design and build of the granny flat met all our expectations and feels more spacious than we imagined. Georgia, Lewis and Charlie have settled in really well, are enjoying their privacy and the opportunity to invite friends round to ‘their house.’
“The granny flat has been integrated into the garden and friends and family have been very complimentary about the finished product.”
