The initial brief for this granny flat was to create a pool house and gym to complement our clients Kelly-Anne and Murray’s planned pool and spa area that would allow them to entertain around the pool, as well as provide a home office and gym for their active family.

They worked with Summit Design Consultant Drew to come up with the perfect, multi-use design.

“Drew was so patient and helpful during the design stage. He worked diligently with our original designer and landscaper as well as the company installing he pool to ensure that nothing would be compromised.” said Kelly-Anne and Murray.

The design for the pool house was simple, with a large main area for the gym, and a wet bar, with a bathroom/change room on one side and a store room to the other side. The construction on site was more difficult, with the team overcoming numerous obstacles to produce a stunning finished product.

“It was a complicated project. With different contractors working together to ultimately produce a brilliant building and outdoor entertainment area.” said Kelly-Anne and Murray.

Access to the rear of the site was very limited and less than a metre wide at the front. The rear of the site fell off across to the rear corner approximately 1 metre and extra fill needed to be moved and brought in to raise the area to the required levels.

The rear of the new building was very close to a Water Corporation sewer main running across the rear of the client’s property and so the rear footing had to be lowered and concrete piles were also required below along the rear wall of the new building.

With extra effort and care from our earthworks and concrete contractors, small machines were able to be used successfully for earthworks and concrete piling.

Our clients were grateful to the construction team for the coordination, patience and care to achieve the great final outcome on a difficult site, involving alternative roof construction and solutions with minimal fuss.

“Our site Supervisor Russel was always available should we need to speak with him and was constantly updating us with the progress of the build.” said Kelly-Anne and Murray. “The builders themselves were polite, clean and respectful of the property – having built with a different company previously we know that this is not always the case.” they added.

The finished product is a stunning pool house, and functional gym space that perfectly complements the client’s attractive new pool and decking zone.

“We love it!” said Kelly-Anne and Murray. “Over the summer, the facilities were used extensively by our teens and their numerous friends. As a family, we now tend to utilise the entertainment area for our evening meals, or just to relax after a long day. The office /Gym is utilised daily and is a major asset to our lives.” they added.
