Tim and Ashley tell us about their real life renovation in Wembley, working with Summit Renovations Senior Designer, Ashley Tunley.

Was this your first time renovating and how did you decide now was the right time to renovate?

We had lived in our Wembley home for a few years but now with two small children, the original two-bedroom, one-bathroom brick and tile home was no longer going to be big enough for our growing family.

Works included the demolition of the existing laundry, removal of the outer leaf brickwork and construction of a new master bedroom with walk in robe and ensuite, a new laundry and kitchen, dining and living area.

We also replaced the aging terracotta roof tiles with Colourbond.

And now we have a beautiful, four-bedroom, two-bathroom home with open plan living overlooking the back garden.

We renovated our previous home but this is the first time undertaking a larger extension. With a growing family, the decision needed to be made whether to demolish and rebuild, move, or stay and extend.

We decided to extend as Summit were accommodating of us living in the existing house whilst the extensions were under construction, which meant we didn’t need to move elsewhere and disrupt the day to day routines of our family.

What was the most important thing that you wanted to achieve through this renovation?

The most important element we wanted to create was a primary area that could be used by the family which incorporates the kitchen, dining and living areas.

The existing house was situated on the south side of the block so it made sense to extend toward the north, incorporating highlight windows to let in the winter sunlight.

How was your experience with Summit Renovations during the design stage?

Upon submitting an enquiry form online, the response from Summit was almost instant.

It wasn’t long before Ashley, our Designer was at our doorstep to commence the planning phase.

We discussed high level ideas about what we were after and soon after Ashley had embellished it with his creative flair, he produced preliminary drawings illustrating exactly what we were after.

How was your experience with Summit Renovations during the construction stage?

Graham was very professional with the way he set up and coordinated the project and was always only a phone call away to answer any questions or concerns relating to project execution.

The project seemed too easy with Russell supervising the works. He was always available for an early morning meeting on site or in the afternoon to discuss progress and to iron out any details or decisions to be made.

The trades were also very professional, treating the property with respect and cleaning up after every day.
