What’s your favourite part of being a designer?

It would have to be the enjoyment it gives to whom I’m designing for. The feeling you get when you hear peoples comments on how they love their reimagined home, and to see them happy in their new space, that’s my favourite part.

What part of the home do you enjoy helping clients redesign and why?

I don’t think there is any specific part, more so improving the parts that are not working for their lifestyle. A home is the sum of its parts and they all need to work for your particular lifestyle whether it be the kitchen/family/living, the alfresco/outdoor area or the master bedroom suite and each family member has their favourite part of the home.

I enjoy listening to my clients, getting to know their stories and piece by piece put together designs that will improve the overall enjoyment of their homes.

What do you love most about your job?

I love creating. From bringing a tired home back to life, redesigning an outdated floorplan or adding more space – whether it be on the ground floor a second storey, I enjoy the creative process. Working with clients, listening to them, discussing ideas and translating that conversation into a design.

When renovating, do you have any features you consider a must-have for any type of home owner?

Simply put…you ‘must have’ a home you love coming home to, if you don’t love coming home then its time to renovate.

That could be a four car garage to a motor car enthusiast, a large alfresco area with an outdoor kitchen and pool for the entertainer or a luxury master bedroom and ensuite that feels like a hotel suite at the Ritz Carlton. Every person’s ‘must have’ is different.

What's your favourite interior style?

That’s like having several children and having to choose one!

I do appreciate and love many styles, from mid century to minimalist modern, contemporary as well as period styled homes but if I had to choose one it would have to be the period style, as I grew up around antique and period furniture which was my fathers business. To me, these homes have a warmth to them, a comfortable feeling that is hard to explain.

I remember purchasing my first period home many years ago, a 1920s war service home in Victoria Park and sitting down in the lounge room for the first time, taking in all the detail, the history, wondering who sat in front of this fireplace before me. I had only moved in that day, but It felt like home.
