Prestart: All your questions answered

Posted 9 April 2019

You’ve bought your block of land, your house design has been picked and your contracts are signed.

The next stage in your building journey begins – Prestart!

Prestart involves selecting all the fittings, finishes, colours and materials for your future home, as well as finalising electrical plans, choosing your plumbing and going through all the elevation, floor and internal plans with an expert client administrator.

The exciting process is made even easier with the Style Studio by Summit where your home building choices becomes a seamless process where all the latest interior design styles are on display, in addition to fittings, fixtures and styles, to name a few.

Typically, a prestart session can take anywhere from five to six hours.

Prior to your session, you will be sent an email outlining certain things you should look at before you come in, for example setting up your electricity and gas accounts and looking at window treatments and flooring.

The prestart session will involve going through your house plans and having everything explained to you. Here you can make further changes to floor plans, which will be costed during your session.

It is very important during and before your prestart session to think about, ‘How do you plan to use your home?’

Everyone is different. Some people want a focus on alfresco living, others might be building for a future family – think about your lifestyle.

You need to consider furniture placement, where you want power points installed and how do you want your kitchen cupboards positioned?

Do you want drawers near your dishwasher?

What angle do you want your windows and doors to open?

It is all these little things that become very important aspects long term and everyone’s choices are different.

Because once your house is built it is too late to make these changes!

Prestart is also an opportunity to benefit from guidance in colour schemes.

Bring in photos or note the name of a Summit Homes display home you would like to take inspiration from.

For your electrical plan, think about technology and how you are going to use music, television and security now and in the future.

A retrofit after your home is built can be more expensive down the track.

While sticking to a budget when building is important, it pays to prioritise what is most important to you and decide what can be done later at a lesser cost.

Do your homework and decide what is important to include in your home now and what you can do without.
