When retirees Ronald and Lynn approached Summit about modernising their newly acquired Mandurah home they had a particular vision in mind.
Top of their list was extending and updating the ageing single level, small home to incorporate an efficient use of space to entertain family and friends.
Another big must was capitalising on the home’s wide canal views from the kitchen, living and master bedroom.
The couple also wanted to be able to zone areas of the home when needed as they often had visitors stay with them.
It was also important the renovation created a feeling of space, comfort and light throughout.
Entertaining guests and cooking is a big passion of Lynn’s so the kitchen had to be functional and spacious, with a scullery for food preparation and plenty of storage.
The end result was a kitchen with striking canal views, which interacted seamlessly with the living areas.
Importantly, Lynn and Ronald enlisted Summit to help make their new home a place they could remain living in during their twilight years.
To achieve an easy living, open plan design, walls were removed and sunken floors were filled.
The couple worked with Summit on different designs before deciding on one and fine tuning it via 3D modelling and a virtual walk through to help envisage the end result.
Glass was used extensively to the rear elevation to showcase the canal views from all the living areas and the master suite.
Light tones, including Turkish travertine floor tiles, were used throughout the living areas to help bring a coastal holiday feel to the home.
Ronald and Lynn had worked on smaller renovations in the past and said working with Summit had been a great decision and had given them the exact home they wanted.
“We also feel that our home is conducive to the multiple design goals that we wanted to achieve,” the couple said.
“The home is now a modern single storey house with all floor areas on the same level ( which is) able to accommodate our retirement living needs through to guest entertaining, whilst making full and efficient use of the location features both inside and outside the home.
“The home is now comfortable, modern, and flexible, with good street appeal and maximizes the location appeal of the site.”
They said they enjoyed the design stage and felt their designer Charlie was very supportive and helpful.
“Meeting our requirements needed considerable regular consultation to ensure a practical and successful both interior and outdoor final design,” Ronald and Lynn said.
