Yen Yap is a Senior Designer at Summit Renovations, bringing over 22 years of award-winning experience to every project. With a keen eye for blending functionality and style, Yen transforms renovation ideas into stunning, practical living spaces.
With a Bachelor of Architecture from UWA and more than two decades specialising in display home design, Yen Yap combines deep architectural knowledge with a practical understanding of construction. His work has earned multiple prestigious awards, including HIA and MBA honors for Best Kitchen, Best Bathroom, Best Display Home, and the coveted Golden Key Award.
Yen’s design philosophy centers on creating spaces that are both stylish and functional, delivering cost-effective solutions that maximise value and suit each client’s lifestyle. The best part of my job is getting to meet new people and supporting them through some of the biggest decisions they’ll make for their home. It’s incredibly rewarding to be trusted in that process, and I feel truly privileged to share the excitement throughout their renovation journey.
I can’t say there’s one specific area I enjoy designing the most — it really depends on the existing home and the client’s needs. What I truly love is finding ways to make minimal changes to the existing structure while still creating a transformative impact on the home. That balance of practicality and creativity is what makes the work so rewarding.
Try to create lots of storage if possible. This is also one of the most common request I get from client.
There are so many styles I love, but if I could only pick one, I’d say the “IKEA style” – if you can call it a style! I really like how practical, adaptable, and budget-friendly it is, while still looking clean and modern. It’s a great balance of functionality and good design.
