Summit Renovations recently completed an inspiring project in Duncraig, transforming the home of Steve and Zarin with a modular second-storey…
The couple aimed to preserve the charm of their older home while enhancing its functionality. A significant challenge was the removal of a skillion verandah, which housed the only bathroom, toilet, and laundry. This structure not only detracted from the property’s aesthetic appeal but also obstructed natural light and access to the backyard.
Recognising the need for a more open and inviting environment, Mario and Kristie sought a renovation that would breathe new life into their home. The kitchen, which lacked functionality and an open plan layout, was a major focus of the redesign. Their designer, Jim, provided invaluable insights and worked diligently to incorporate the couple’s vision into the new layout.
Kristie shared, “When we first saw the plans Jim had prepared for us, the overriding emotion was probably relief. He really understood the brief and had taken my ideas and made them better.
Now that the vision has come to life and we’ve been back in our renovated home for a couple of months, I’m in disbelief. I still pinch myself when I stand in my kitchen and see all the sunlight coming into the space. It’s actually better than I imagined it would be.”
The design included:
- A Large Main Bedroom: Featuring an ensuite and walk-in robe
- Open Plan Kitchen, Family, and Meals Area: This bright and airy space is perfect for family gatherings and offers a seamless connection to outdoor living areas
- A Family Bathroom: This addition ensures privacy for their growing daughter while meeting the needs of the entire family
- A Bright Study/Office: Designed to create a conducive workspace for remote work, the new study is both functional and inviting
Mario and Kristie appreciated the level of communication and professionalism throughout the construction process. Their construction manager, Russel, was dedicated to ensuring a smooth experience, addressing any concerns promptly and keeping them informed every step of the way. Kristie shared the moment during the renovation when she felt particularly excited and inspired by the changes happening in her home:
“I got the most emotional on Demo Day – not because I was sad to see it go but because I was so happy it was finally happening. I was very excited about the entire project, I was there regularly and I loved seeing the progress every week. Part of the joy of this journey was seeing trades on site so consistently and seeing constant progress. Probably the most exciting and transformational week was when the tiling went in and the rooms really started to get some personality.”
With a focus on light, space, and family living, the completed project has transformed Mario and Kristie’s Mount Lawley home into a haven for their family. Summit Renovations is proud to have played a role in realising their vision for a brighter, more functional home.
“We completely demolished the entire back of the house, leaving only the front three bedrooms and entrance. Rebuilding the back of the house has utilised the existing footprint much more effectively and given us maximum utilisation of the space, as well as access to the back outdoor area which we didn’t have before.
The new indoor area is light and bright and spacious and allows us to be together as a family and be comfortable. Now that the renovation has finally happened, I feel like we can start finally making the most of the house. We have room to have friends and family over which was not possible before. It’s totally changed our lives.” said Kristie.
